Totally lost track of what I was suppose to do. After learning that neither Viggo Mortensen or Michael Fassbender was nominated for this years Oscars Awards, I've completely lost interest and decided to just drop the whole thing all together. Didn't even bothered watching the replay after getting home from work. Too tired and sleepy to do anything else. I've read somewhere that Micheal Fassbender's comment on being snubbed at the Academy's was this: "If I was a naked woman in a film, I would've been a contender." , and I agree.
Now don't get me wrong, the past few weeks may have been mentally challenging not to mention exhausting ( Mock-calls to the highest level!) but it was all good none the less. I missed friends from my former company and I have to admit I was this close to going back. The only thing that's keeping from doing this is that I don't want to work in the night shift any more. Last year as a complete struggle and I'm crossing my fingers that it will not happen again, so I'm making sure that I'll be paying better attention to my health from now on. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I this time I'm finally at the right place at the right time.
Since the Award Season is officially over, I can just chill and wait for my favorite movies to be released. Two huge movies that I'm really looking forward to... "The Hobbit" and "The Man of Steel". I know Peter Jackson is going to kick ass with the adaptation of The Hobbit and Henry Cavill, well let's just see how he will fare as the new Superman. I always say this and I will say it again... nobody compares to Christopher Reeve.

The Golden Globe Awards 2012 & Viggo Mortensen: Part 2
Continued...
While on the set of "Hidalgo" in Montana, a reporter from Entertainment Weekly witnessed firsthand his character and humility when his wallet went missing. Mortensen lost his passport, credit cards, and some cash. He turned his trailer upside-down thrice looking for his belongings, then the reporter simply suggested that it might have been stolen. All Viggo said was he doesn't want to put it that way... somebody must have mistaken it for trash and took it out in the garbage.There are very few people nowadays who still has faith in humanity. I know I don't. Not all of the time that is. So, problematic as he was because he needs to go back to LA the that day, one of the production crew quietly approached him and gave him some gas money so he can just drive using one of the trucks to LA with his son. A common celebrity would have thrown a huge fit and threaten everyone that heads would roll if the culprit isn't caught. They would've made a big deal out of it, so would the press. But since Mortensen is good friends with almost everyone in production, they're not afraid to offer him their help because they know that he will never take offense. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I've heard so many stories about Viggo Mortensen... that lengths he would go to get into character: he struts about Wellington in New Zealand even entering restaurants with his sword still on his side. His tooth was knocked-off while filming a sword-fighting scene and asked Peter Jackson if they can just super-glue it so they can still continue filming. What dedication! His generosity to his fellow actors and the staff, and how pleasant it is to work with him, and so much more. Sometimes it makes me wonder how can there be so much positive light in just one person? I want to be like that, but I honestly don't know how.
I''ll support Viggo Mortensen every way I can. He may never read my blogs but one or two people might and hopefully I could stir some curiosity in them that would make them want to watch at least one of his movies, and make them say... that other than his many talents, Mortensen is greatly known for his kindness and generosity. I leave you you now with a clip from the extended version of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, in the books it is called the "Houses of Healing" which happens to be my favorite chapter from the book. Though Aragorn has yet to claim his thrown as the King of Gondor, this chapter shows that there is no contest to his claim. As the old lady Ioreth mentioned, "The hands of the king are the hands of a healer." As for myself, I my heart rejoices for Eowyn the White Lady of Rohan. Her overcoming despair and finding her one true love. By the way, that's Liv Tyler singing in the background.

The Golden Globe Awards 2012 & Viggo Mortensen: Part 1
The holiday season is over and most of us are still experiencing post holiday hang-overs. Heck, a lot of us hasn't put down our Christmas decorations yet, as usual waiting for Valentines Day or the Chinese New Year, which ever comes first.
But there's another season that I'm always looking forward to every year. It makes me so excited and hyped-up that I get so obsessed about it sometimes. Ladies and gentlemen, that would be the Hollywood Awards Season. The Golden Globe Awards officially kicks-off the series of Awards shows this year on January 15, 2012. I was lucky enough to catch the live broadcast of the nominations on Talk TV Channel 21 (clearly we do not have Cable TV just yet and I'm really hoping that we could get one just in time for The Oscars). Gerald Butler was there with Woody Harrelson and the uber sexy Sofia Vergara. The Press got a kick-out of it with Vargara mispronouncing some of the nominees' names. She said "Martin Scor-says" instead of "Martin Scorsay-see". Martin Scorsese was nominated for Best Director - Motion Picture for the movie "Hugo". But everybody just kinda let it go coz Sofia's so funny not to mention hot.
When I heard Viggo Mortensen's name announced for Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture Drama, I found myself shouting "YES!" and doing fist-pumps (not to mention a bit of jumping around the living room) as if it was my name being announced. I was equally ecstatic when I heard Michael Fassbender's name mentioned. Fassbender is nominated for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for his portrayal of a mourning sex addict in "Shame" It's either that or for his other film, also with Mortensen, "A Dangerous Method". But I guess "Shame" has more serious theme and the topic is still considered a taboo. even the Director and Fassbender admitted that they had difficulty obtaining materials to to work on for this film as nobody would speak to them until they decided to ask for professional assistance from Doctors, Psychologist and to some patients who are actually going through this kind of devastating addiction. When I first saw Michael Fassbender as Stelios in the movie "300" (of course I didn't knew then that he was also in Band of Brothers), I had a gut feeling that we would be seeing more of him because he has displayed impressive acting for a small character in a Fantasy/Action movie. As Brad Pitt said in their round-about interview with Director Quentin Tarantino which can be seen in the Inglorious Basterds DVD, "Michael Fassbender is a find. He will do really good."
Now there's so much to tell about Fassbender and his film "Shame" but until I have seen it for myself I would have to make some time to create a separate post dedicated solely to this movie. First would be the Golden Globe Awards where majority of the voters consists of local and international members of the Press. What makes the Golden Globes different from the rest is they give out awards for Best Actor/Actress in a Movie - Comedy or Musical. Now the SAG or the Screen Actors Guild Awards only members of the American Labor Union are allowed to vote. Fellow actors , writers, directors, ect. will be the ones critiquing their colleagues' performance. Please correct me if I'm wrong , but even our very own Iza Calzado was able to obtain an SAG membership because she has a part in the U.S. version of "Sigaw" (The Echoe). Not sure if has continued to be a member though.
And of course, who doesn't know the Academy of Motion Picture Arts ands Sciences or simply known as The Oscars. This is the mother of all award giving organizations, and therefore the grandest and most prestigious around the world. Members of the Academy get to vote here, not just Directors or actors but writers and members of the Academe as well.
What most of us do not know, winning an award does not solely rely on ones performance. This includes a serious and aggressive marketing strategies and campaigns. Not to mention spending hundreds of thousands in money.
How do you know that a celebrity is campaigning for their selves? Their always on the Red Carpet, all smiles for the Paparazzi's, wearing fabulous and overly expensive designer gowns. Any event that they can gate-crash, big or small, they'll be there. TV appearances, radio interviews, it's just endless. Sounds like something that something that they always do right? But it's crunch time for everyone during the awards season, there will always be on overkill of movie posters, flyers, and whatchamacallit. The visibility will catch the the publics curiosity and would lure them into the cinemas, all by word of mouth. When Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for her role in "The Blind Side", she also attended the Razzies Awards (they give out awards for worst picture, actor & actress for the year) to pick up her trophy for Worst Actress in a Movie for the film "All About Steve". Some see this as last minute attempt to get the Academy voters' attention, though of course the were already tallied at that time. I'm not saying that Bullock did not deserve to win the Oscars because I believe that she truly deserves the recognition and in fact Sandra Bullock is one of the few Hollywood actresses that I like. what I'm saying is that she played by Hollywood's rules and did it well.
On the other hand, the ones who truly deserve the recognition are the ones who refuses to be contaminated by this kind of politics in the entertainment industry. Take Viggo Mortensen for Instance, though his odds are very good but when pitted against power house names such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt or even Hollywoods current poster boy Ryan Gosseling, Mortensen wouldn't stand a chance because he does not have a powerful machinery to back him up compared to Clooney. hell, George Clooney even has the entire United Nations to support him because of his numerous international charity works. Of course the UN does not spend money on him but they can help increase his popularity by simply word of mouth. While the ones voting for Viggo are the ones who do all the hard work but but never gets credit for it... The PA's, the camera men and production crew. In the Set of "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy , they nicknamed Mortinsen as "No ego-Viggo". He's known for treating everyone fairly and has never acted as Diva or a Divo on set.

Immortals is not 300
I was so eager to see this film but had to wait nearly a month instead. Immortals' world wide premiere was on 11-11-11, but it was shown here in the Philippines on the 7th of December instead to give way to the fourth installment of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and the animation film Happy Feet 2.
My expectations weren't really that high, after all this is an action/fantasy film. Even so, I couldn't help but feel that the movie felt short of every one else' expectations, not just my own. Now, now, before everyone starts to retaliate and call me a "know-it-all"... let me just say that I enjoyed the watching the film. Really! I mean an hour and a half of Henry Cavill shirtless... what more can I ask for (more nudity perhaps? *wink*)? I was just pretty much happy staring at him most time. The lack of chemistry between him and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) was quite obvious and I was also hoping that they would give Henry to showcase his acting skills. Do not be deceive by his gorgeous looks because this guy can act. I guess this isn't the right film to do so. We'll see how he fares once he puts on his cape in "The Man of Steel". I'll be closely watching this new take on the Superman series and that is because I'm a true fan of Christopher Reeve and very proud of it.
Now if you don't mind me jumping into another topic. As you noticed I have mentioned on the title of this blog that Immortals is not 300. They have different plots yes, but actually both films are produced by the same people and same production company, which is Warner Bros. of course. Sad to say though that they have yet to outdone that breakthrough film that they've produced in 2008. If a story is set in Greek Mythology, expect that they would have a 300-ish feel to it. Immortals has a PG 13 rating and that is because of the gauging of the eyes of slaves and some torture scenes. Where as 300 was given an R 18 movie rating and I think you all know why. Apart from the violence and gore of hand to hand combat there are also 300 naked (who wears nothing but cod piece) Spartan warriors parading all the time in the film! Not that I mind, I remembered the first time I saw this film, I said: "I will never see well sculpted pecs and abs in my entire life if not for this film! The makers of this film are marketing geniuses. Women will watch this film and ignore the gruesome stuff just to see these men."
One of the characters in the movie 300 that struck me was Stelios and Astinos played by Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds, X-Men: First Class) and Tom Wisdom (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants Part 2) respectively. I've been recently intrigued with Fassbender after reading an article about him in Time Magazine. I learned that he's starring opposite with one of my favorite actors, Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of The Rings) in the movie " A Dangerous Method" which also stars Keira Knightly as a mental patient. I have seen the trailer, and OMG! Very intriguing and very dark, deals a lot on how Psycho analysis was born (Freud and Jung). I've posted the the Official Movie Trailer, and a lot of Oscar buzz that surrounds this film, one of the is for Fassbender's portrayal of Dr. Carl Jung. Though I've just read a few minutes ago that they the Screen Actors Guild Awards did not acknowledge his performance, so no nomination for him. But the SAG is still different from the Oscars, the latter is lot more prestigious and well known award giving body. I have a strong feeling that Michael Fassbender will take home the trophy for
Best Actor at the Oscars next
year. I'm really hoping that I could find a copy of this movie or that it will
previewed here in the Philippines, though it's quite unlikely. He was in Band of Brothers and
I didn't even knew about it until a few days ago, and I have known that
T.V. series by heart. He was the one who got yelled at by their Commanding
Officer played by David Schwimmer (FRIENDS) because he
drank from his canteen during their very grueling night marches. In my shock I
immediately pulled out the first episode and popped it into the DVD player. And
yes, it was him alright. He played machine gunner Pvt. Burton "Pat"
Christenson. Yeah, I guess you could say that I have a slight crush on him
that's why I'm writing about him in the first place. I always say that it is
not the looks alone that captures my fancy but the talent instead,
that is the reason why I come to admire so many actors who are virtually
unknown because once they have turned into celebrities (status and attitude
wise) I lost all interest and become bitter instead, CHOS!

The Debt : My Own Movie Review
Again, I recommend "The Debt" to those who are into espionage flicks. Brilliant acting by the cast, great story telling and directing as well. Definitely worth your time and money.

Merry Little Christmas, kinda
Christmas will be a bit sad this year as we have lost two very special creatures in our lives. My cat " Bulelat" and the stray dog that we have rescued three years ago, "Choco".
"Choco" passed away on Thursday so it's been two days to that day and we still can't believe that he's gone. Often I would lie awake at night and ask if he's for real or just a dream, because time flew so fast and three years seemed to pass by as if it were only a matter of minutes. Time proved to be too short.
On the other hand, "Bulelat" first came to us when he just a tiny kitten. Perhaps a few weeks old. He's so tiny that he could easily fit in the palm of my hand, he also likes to stick-out his tongue. Hence the name Bulelat. The name means "Bulilit" and "Belat". Silly huh, but we like giving our pets silly names as it's easier to remember and it gives them some kind of character. "Bulelat" has been with us for 13 years, so that would be 97 cat years! Didn't expect him to live that long but still we dreaded the day that we would have to say our goodbye's. That happened on the 12th of February this year. I cried my heart out for weeks before I finally get to used to not seeing him lying around somewhere taking a long nap (he's a lazy cat!). I would cry uncontrollably whenever I watch "Winnie the Pooh", or "Chronicles of Narnia" as these movies remind me so much of him.
I once told my sister that teaching kindness towards other may be done, specially if taught at a young age. But there is one thing that for me can never be taught... and that is compassion.Not only towards your neighbors, but to smaller beings as well. My parents certainly didn't taught us to be nice to animals as my Grandmother would be the first one to shoo them away. But for some reason (perhaps through the grace of God and experiencing hardships at an early age), we have developed an understanding and great love for them. I may never have children of my own, who knows, but to me and my sister we treated them with love and respect as if they were our own.
I personally have experienced a lot of setbacks not only with my health but with my personal growth as well. Now I will have to start from scratch, yet gain. I would endure this all, as long as I have those who are dear to me. Wealth or success is nothing if there is no one to share it with.

The New "Man of Steel"
Hi fans!!! Just kidding. It has been more than a year since I have posted anything on my blog, and I can't believe how much I've missed it.
I will waste no time and go straight to my topic which is very close to my heart. I as a child I was very quiet, shy and even too serious for my age. Did't had a lot of playmates except the ones that existed in my imagination. I've always dreamed of being befriended by a giant mecca (giant mechanical robot) like VOLTRON or being swept to the sky by no other than Superman himself. That's how I deal with loneliness. I have matured beyond my years and yet there's a part of me that will always remain that frightened and sad 4 year old kid.
Christopher Reeve will always be my hero. From being my very first crush, the feeling eventually evolved into something else... he became my dad. Now, there has been so many who took over his Superman cloak after the very last Superman movie, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. But none of them has ever came close to what Chris Reeve did for this character, Christopher made Superman fly! Remember they only rely on wire back then and special effect did not helped them so much either. For you guys to understand what I'm talking about, you would have to watch the special DVD of Superman I which includes commentary from Director Richard Donner and from some of the cast like Kidder Margot (which for me is the best Lois Lane) and the late Chris Reeve of course.
Of all the recent Superman I'm a bit bias with Barndon Routh because not only does he look like Christopher but he was able to imbibe some of Clark Kent's dorkiness which I find endearing. And now, come 2013 we will be yet again introduced to the brand new Superman, mind you he is not American but English. Henry Cavill a.k.a Lord Suffolk in the TV Series "The Tudors". Much is to be
said about his good looks and physique, but unlike Brandon, he can act! Sorry Brandon Routh fans, but it's the truth. I was so hooked on the "The Tudors" these past months but even so, I'm still having a difficult time placing him in th the character. Oh well, I believe there are some picture of him wearing the the costume floating about the internet and here's one of them. And here's a teaser trailer of the movie "The Man of Steel".
